Pale Ale: Howling Halloween

We are making a drinkable and approachable beer for our Halloween Party 2013. We based it on EdWort's Pale Ale Recipe, because it is simple and cheap. All tolled, the grains and hops cost $24 and some change for 5 gallons.

Collaboration: Robust Porter

We collaborated with Doug Penn over in Alexandria and created a beer using whatever grains he had available (which were quite a lot). We planned for a Robust Porter using Jamil's Black Widow Porter from Brewing Classic Styles, but changed it up slightly based on what we actually had available to us.

Apple Cherry Hard Cider

Based on a recipe by fellow DC Homebrewer Andrei Henry. Just in time for Fall.

Imperial Pumpkin Stout

We've been doing pumpkin ales for a few years and decided to switch it up this season. Neither of us have attempted Russian Imperial Stouts before.

Session IPA

Based on Beer Advocate's (and AHA's) 'Pliny the Toddler' (AHA Pliny the Toddler). We really wanted a sessionable IPA -- especially with out new kegging system. Something drinkable, but aggressively hopped. We wanted grapefruity, citrusy, tropical; instead of piney, resiny, bitter. We'll reuse the yeast for a IBA/ Black IPA more towards the Fall.

Cynically American Saison

Channeling one of the recipes from Surly (Beer Advocate)-- one of our favorite breweries. A Saison hopped with American and New Zealand stone fruity and earthy hops. Hopefully with 1 gallon finished with Brett.

Reunited IPA - 100% Brettanomyces IPA

Kayla is finally in DC and we decided to make something for the occasion. We've been wanting to play around with Brett and we love hoppy IPAs.

White House Honey Ale - 1st Anniversary

One year after John successfully petitioned for the release of Obama's homebrew recipes, we decided to make a small anniversary batch. Again with local honey, but this time with some local yeast.
